Brief Background

The Department of Fundamentals of Electrical and Power Engineering is among the first academic units of the Technical University of Gabrovo. It was established way back in 1964 under the name of “Theoretical, Measure and General Electrical Engineering” and continued as such until 1984. Its first Head was the first Rector of the university – Prof. Vessel Savov. The first assistant professor in it was Nikolay Kolev.  By 1971 А. Bakalov, Т. Petrov, D. Girginov, V. Тоdorov, I. Stanev, Т. Тоdorov, D. Chicharov, L. Genchev, Y. Yordanov, D. Petrov, G. Venkov, and G. Trendafilov joined the Department. From 1970 to 1971 the Department was headed by Assoc Prof. Dimitar Tsvetkov. In 1971 the Department branched thus setting the new Department of  Electrical Machines and Equipment. After the splitting of the Department, N. Kolev, I. Stanev, D. Chicharov, D. Petrov, G. Venkov, and G. Trendafilov remained in it and its Head became Assoc. Prof. Boris Mitov. From 1975 to 1988 the Department was headed by Prof. Lyudmil Genov, D.Sc. In 1984 the Department was renamed into Department of Fundamentals of Electrical and Power Engineering. From 1989 to 1993 it was headed by Assoc. Prof. Ilia Stanev and from 1993 to 2008 by Assoc Prof. Georgi Trendafilov. In the period 2008-2012 the Department Head was Assoc. Prof. Petar Uzunov. The present day Head of the Department is Assoc. Prof. Zvezditsa Nenova. After 1973 the rank of assistant professor attained I. Stoev (1973), А. Zheglova (1987), Z. Nenova (1988), P. Petrov (1988), P. Uzunov (1988), Tsv. Varbov (1989), Кr. Ivanov (1989), G. Velev (2002). In different periods as assistant professors in the department worked G. Dishliev (later associate professor), Y. Slavev, P. Stanchev, N. Коzarev. In 2009 three new assistant professors – Y. Lazarov, P. Hristov and G. Georgiev joined the Department and in 2010 N. Nedev was appointed. Since 1986 the academic organizer of the Department has been Natalia Binteva, and since 1988 Ivan Stanev has worked as a department engineer.
