The department of Physics was organized in 1963. Throughout the entire period of its existence the department has had the privilege to have as members of its staff prominent scientists in the field of Physics such as Prof. Razum Andreichin, PH.D ; Prof Maria Moldovanova ,PH.D. , Assoc Prof Ivan petkov, PH.D . Founder and first Head of department was Assoc Prof Stefan Armensky who also was  rector of Technical University of Gabrovo from 1991 to 1994. Other prominent  scholars and scientist , who gave their contribution to the development of the department , are Assoc Prof. Lazar Tsifudin and Assoc Prof Stefcho Yordanov, PH.D.

Research orientation of  the department:

• Interaction of laser radiation with substance;
• Glass-like semiconductors as medium for  optical recordings;
• Optoelectron sensors for quality control of  laser marking manufacturing technology.

The department staff consists of: two Assoc Professors, three Major Asst Professors, two Senior Asst. Professors , one engineer and one office assistant.
